Airports in Ohio
Ohio air traffic is centered around two airports – Cleveland Airport and Port Columbus Airport. These two handle the most passengers, about 18 million combined, followed by Dayton Airport. In total, there are 8 Ohio airports offering commercial, year-round flights. Besides the 3 aforementioned, the rest handle only domestic and regional flights. Cleveland International Airport is a major US airport situated 15 km SW of downtown Cleveland. Airport serves its nearby cities of Akron and Elyria, too. There are scheduled flights to more than 50 destinations, via more than 10 airlines. Some of them include major American and Delta, as well as budget airlines Frontier and jetBlue. Those low-cost airlines usually have seasonal flights, while major ones have year round, to cities like Atlanta and Chicago. Cleveland’s RTA public transit has frequent departures from the airport. Shuttles and shared rides are available, too.
John Glenn Columbus International Airport – IATA Code – CMH (~ 8.5 M Passengers)
Port Columbus International Airport is the 2nd largest in Ohio, handling more than 8 million passengers. Airport serves Columbus city, as it is located about 10 km east from the center. Currently, there are 9 airlines providing daily flights. Most of them are year-round, but there are some seasonal flights too. COTA public transport buses depart every half an hour from the airport. For those who don’t like public transportation, shuttles, taxis and limos are available.
Dayton International Airport – IATA Code – DAY (~ 1.2 M Passengers)
Dayton Airport is an airport serving Montgomery County, and cities of Dayton and Springfield. Named after former governor James M. Cox, it’s situated 16 km north of Dayton. American Eagle and Delta are the busiest airlines, while Allegiant Air offers seasonal flights to Florida. Statistics show that Atlanta and Chicago are the top destinations from DAY airport.
