  • The journey takes 40 – 55 minutes, depending on where your exit station is (Piazza Castelnuovo or the Central Station).

Train

The Trinacria Express serves the line between the Palermo airport and the main railway station.

  • The travel time is approximately 60 minutes.
  • The train departs twice an hour both towards Palermo and Palermo Airport (the last train departs at 10:00 p.m.).
  • A single ticket costs 5,80 €.

NOTE: If you’re heading north of the city center, it is advised to get off at Palermo Notarbartolo (journey time is 45 minutes).

Taxi

Taxis are not an advisable means of transport, since there is a high probability you will get overcharged, paying at least 50,00 € for a one-way ride (it can cost even more after 08:00 p.m.).

However, if you absolutely have no other option, try and negotiate the price with the driver prior to entering the car, never en route or after the drive. You will find many taxis waiting for you in the Arrivals area.
One of the most reliable taxi companies there is Radio Taxi Trinacria and you can even book them online.

Palermo Airport FAQs

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

No, there are bus and train lines throughout the day, but in case you miss all of them, take a taxi but be careful and negotiate the price before the drive, since the Palermo taxists are well-known for overcharging.

I have an early morning departure from the airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

Yes, you can book a room in Villa Modus Vivendi only 0.9 km away from the airport, in Casa Fondo Orsa on the distance of 1.5 km from the airport. They offer full service, Wi-Fi and 24-hour-open desk.

I would like to spend one day in Palermo in between flights. Is that possible?

Yes, of course. The best way to do so is to take one of the buses which take you directly from the airport to the city centre and are the most convenient way of transportation.
Unfortunately there is no luggage storage at the airport, but you can leave your stuff at the Central Station.

I am continuing my journey outside Palermo. Are there any direct lines from the airport to other cities?Ž

There are less frequent lines from the airport to Agrigento, Trapani and Sciacca/Ribera directly from the airport, but all other destinations include going first to Palermo Central Station and there taking the bus or train which will get you to your destination.
You can visit Cefalu, Taormina, Catania and many other beautiful Sicilian places.

Can I exchange the money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

Yes, there are several exchange offices and ATMs at the airport, working 24/7, but it would be better to exchange the money before the trip and have some euros on you since the rate will be a lot higher on the spot and no currency other than euro is accepted.

      • Serghei   •

Hello! How to arrive from Palermo Airport to San vito lo capo after 21.40 pm?

        • Kristina   •

          Hi Serghei,
Unfortunately, there is no direct bus line from Palermo airport to San Vito lo Capo. What you can do is taking the bus from the airport to Trapani and then you can board another bus to San Vito. However, since you are arriving late at the airport, maybe booking a transfer wouldn’t be a bad idea to consider!
          Best regards,
          Kristina

      Dear Petr,

We are staying at the Porta Felice Hotel in Palermo. After arriving at the Palermo Airport, what bus stop should we get off for this hotel? How long would the walk be from the bus stop to the hotel?
    Thank you

    • Melani   •

      Dear Jo Ann,

First you need to reach Palermo Centrale Railway Station by shuttle bus and then continue with local bus line 107 or 224 to Lincoln – Villa Giulia and get off there. From that stop you have additional 7min walk to your accommodation.

      Best regards,

Hi Melani, we are staying in a villa at the end of Mondello beach (closer to Palermo). Which bus stop from the airport we should get off the bus?
    Thank you!

    • Melani   •

      Dear Valeria,

First get on shuttle bus from the airport and get off at Politeama bus stop. From there you can catch bus line 806D to Mondello Beach (the last stop is Teti, at the end of the beach).

      Best regards,

Can anyone recommend the best stop for Via Mariano Stabile, Palermo, 90139, we will be walking with a case.

    Thank you

    • Melani   •

      Dear Kerry,

First you need to get to Palermo Centrale railway station and then walk to Stazione Centrale – Giulio Cesare bus stop to catch bus line 101 to Roma – Stabile, the closest bus stop for Via Mariano Stabile.

We have a 6:00 AM flight out of Palermo on a Sunday. We are staying in Palermo, if we take the 4:00 AM bus to the airport will that give us enough time to get checked in and to our gate?

    • Melani   •

      Dear Brian,

I think that should be enough time to get checked in at the airport. Expected arrival with shuttle bus should be around 04:45.

      Best regards,

Best way to get from airport to Hotel Politeama and back?
    Thank you

    • Maja   •

      Dear Anthony,

you can choose between an airport shuttle bus and a train, as they both take you to the central station/Polietama.
You can buy a bus ticket directly on the link.
Your hotel is located a short walk from the station.

Hi, Thanks for sharing information article!!!

  50. David   •

    Dear Melani
    Good morning.
We will be arriving at Palermo airport approximately 21:30 p.m. from Manchester (UK) on Friday 922 of April 2022. and would like to take the bus to our Hotel.

We are going to stay at: Palermo Inn Suite
    3 Via Tommaso lo Cascio piano 1°, scala A , interno 4, 90142 Palermo, Italy –

Would you please tell me which is the nearest bus stop to the hotel (listed above) to get off? Also what time last bust leave airport as well (Please)?

We will be returning to the airport on Monday 25th. April 2022, is it possible to purchase a return ticket when first leaving the airport or do we need to purchase single tickets for each trip?

Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

    With Kind Regards
    David

      Hi David,

the last departure of the shuttle bus is at 11:30 pm, check out all the departures here, just pick the desired date.
However, the shuttle bus doesn’t stop that close to your destination in the city, so you can take a shuttle all the way to Via Tommaso Fazello (the last stop).
Once there, we suggest you change to a bus no. 107 which takes you to Ucciardone bus station, the closest one to your destination.

Also, on the link above, you can immediately purchase return tickets.

      Best,
      GBB Team

    Hi
    Good afternoon.
May I ask you how/which airport bus number can we take to Ibis Styles Palermo President, Via Francesco Crispi 230, 90139 Palermo, Italy.
Would you please tell me which is the nearest bus stop to the hotel (listed above) to get off? Also what time last bus leave airport as well (Please)?

    Kind Regards
    Dave

    • Maja   •

      Hi David,

If you choose to travel by train, then the closest bus station to your hotel will be Palermo Lolli, about 15 minutes on foot to your accommodation.
If you decide to travel by bus, you will first need to change to a bus no. 101 at Palermo – Via Liberta Don Bosco and then continue to Polietama, about 10 minutes on foot to your accommodation.

      Best,
      GBB Team

  52. David   •

    Thank you Maja

    One more question (please):

Is it possible to take Airport Bus then get off at Piazza Castelnuovo then walk to hotel.
Is it possible? If so, how far is walking to Ibis Styles Palermo President hotel, Via Francesco Crispi 230, 90139 Palermo, Italy.

    Appreciated your reply.

    Kind Regards
    Dave

      Hi David,

the airport bus makes a stop at Via Fazello station, however, you can switch to bus no. 101 to get to Polieama – Turati station, which is 5 minutes from your hotel on foot.
This might be the most convenient option if using a shuttle bus.

      Best,
      GBB Team
