Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport (BOD) is the international airport of Bordeaux, situated in the commune of Mérignac, some 12 km from Bordeaux city centre.

If you’re flying to Bordeaux, read on and find all the relevant information about BOD airport.

How to get from Bordeaux Airport to Bordeaux

Airport shuttle bus

You can reach city centre by taking Navette Shuttle 30’ Direct which operates every day from the airport to the train station (Gare de Bordeaux St. Jean).

  • Currently valid schedule: see here.
  • NOTE: The schedules change depending on the season, in the high season buses usually operate until 23:00
  • The price of a one-way ticket is 8€ ; people under 26 and seniors over 60 pay a reduced amount of 7€

Local bus

Another possibility of getting to the train station is by taking a local (and much cheaper!) bus Lianes 1+ operated by TBM.

  • First bus departs from the airport at 4:45 and the last one at 00:40 (1:20 on Thu, Fri and Sat)
  • The bus operates on the route between Saint-Jean train station and the airport via Bordeaux Centre and Mérignac Centre.
  • The single bus fare costs 1.70€, but it is probably more convenient to buy 1-day ticket which costs 4.50€ (unlimited access for the day)
  • The tickets can be purchased on vending machines, sales offices, or directly from driver.

Train

Although it is not directly connected with Bordeaux Airport, St. Jean train station can be easily reached either by shuttle bus or by a local bus within 30 minutes (or less if traffic is not too crowded).

Taxi services

If you don’t want to drag around your suitcases, there are taxis waiting for you outside the Arrivals Terminal, but be prepared for waiting in case you’re visiting during the summer. Make sure they have their taximeters on when you leave the airport so you don’t get overcharged. The average cost of the ride to Bordeaux is around 30€.

Transfer

Booking the door-to-door transfer is a good alternative to taxi if you want to make sure the driver will wait for you. If your plane is late, the company will know because they monitor your flight.

Renting a car at Bordeaux Airport

There are 10 companies in total which offer their services at the airport, all of them located at A-B Hall connecting wing. But if you want your car waiting for you when you arrive at the airport, then hurry up and book it online.

Renting a bus at Bordeaux Airport

In case you are coming with a larger group of people, you should probably rent a bus or a minibus prior to your arrival. The bus rental companies will arrange all the details about the pick-up point once you book it.

Bordeaux Airport FAQs

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

Not at all, since the local bus and shuttle bus operate every 10-15 mins throughout the day. But in case you don’t manage to catch the last one, you can always get a taxi outside the Arrivals Hall.

I have an early morning departure from the airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

Sure thing, there are several hotels in the proximity  of the airport at which you can stay overnight:
Best Western Hotel (3*) – only one kilometre from the airport; offers free Wi-Fi and parking
Hotel Mercure Bordeaux Airport (4*) – 1.2 kilometres from the airport; has free Wi-Fi access and parking
Brit Hotel Bordeaux Aéroport – Le Soretel (3*) – 1.5 km from the airport; free Wi-Fi connection, free parking

I would like to spend one day in Bordeaux in between flights. Is that possible?

Yes, of course. The best way to do so is to take the local bus which will take you directly from the airport to the city centre. And make sure you buy the 1-day ticket pass for local public transportation to save money. You can leave your luggage in luggage lockers at St. Jean train station from 07:00 to 22:30 on weekdays, from 07:00 to 20:30 on Saturdays, and from 09:15 to 22:45 on Sundays.

I am continuing my journey outside Bordeaux. Are there any direct bus lines from the airport to other cities?

Unfortunately, there are no direct lines from the airport to other cities, but you can first go to the city centre. The buses depart from the bus stop in Quai De Paludate street. You can pick one of the most popular routes like Bordeaux – Paris, Bordeaux – Lyon or Bordeaux – Toulouse. If you want to visit other French cities, you can find many routes on getbybus.com.

Can I exchange money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

Yes, the ATMs and exchange service are located at the airport, but we recommend having enough euros on you since the rate at the airports are higher than usual and no currency other than euro is accepted.

      Dear Marie,

The best way is to go first to Gare Saint Jean (the main bus station in Bordeaux). You can either go by shuttle bus for 8€ or by bus line 1 for 1.50€ but it takes You longer. Then at the bus station take regional TER train to Gare de Sainte-Foy-La-Grande. The travel time is around 1 hr and 20 min.

Our flight comes in from Spain at 23.05. We are catching a train to Tours in the morning. We have to fill in the time before the train without wandering around the streets. A hotel for the 6 hours is not worth it to us.
Is it possible to stay at the airport or does it shut up after the last flight?
