Airport bus Linz

Airport Linz, also known as Blue Danube Airport Linz and formerly known as Hörsching Airport, is a primary international airport near the third-largest city in Austria, Linz. It is located near the borders of Germany and Czech Republic, around 12 kilometers (~7 miles) away from the Linz city center. It is relatively small and it handles about half a million passengers a year. There are several options to go to and from the airport.

Public Transport

The airport has a good connection with the city center via public transport so you can either take a bus or a train.

Bus: The bus no. 601 links the airport to the city center. It departs from opposite Linz Main Station/Kärntnerstrasse from Monday to Saturday, every hour from 5:00 am to 7:00 pm. The price for a single trip is 3.20 € and there is an option of a day ticket for 6.40 €. The journey takes approximately 20 minutes.

Train: There are trains which connect Linz or Wels to the Hörsching train station at hourly intervals. The journey takes around 10 minutes from/to Linz and around 15 minutes from/to Wels. The price of the single train ticket is 2,30 € for Linz and 4,30 € for Wels. There is a free shuttle bus which transfers the passengers on a relation Hörsching train station-airport where passengers have to show a valid plane ticket. This journey takes around 3 minutes and the service is available between 5:00 am and 10:00 pm.

Taxi Service: For those who prefer a more relaxed and comfortable type of transfer, a taxi may be a good option. At Linz airport, they can be found directly outside the arrivals hall. Approximate prices are 29 € to get to the Linz Central Station, 35 € to get to the city center and 48 € to get to the Wels. In case you need to leave the airport promptly you are able to book the taxi in advance, and you can also contact one of the companies to pick you and take you to the airport. Transfer: If you don’t like using public transport and hesitate to take a taxi, consider booking a private transfer which will wait for you on the airport and take you to your hotel or wherever you need to go. The transfer company will send a professional driver to pick you up. You can even pre-order a child safety seat if you are travelling with a child.

Renting a car at Linz Airport: If you prefer transferring or exploring the area on your own, you can rent a car directly at the Linz Airport. The car rental offices are located in the building at Main Car Park. Compare the prices of the companies and save your time by booking your car online.

Renting a bus at Linz Airport: For larger groups of passengers, renting a bus is a great option. It is recommended to book the bus online so that bus companies have enough time to advise you on the meeting point and all other necessary information.

FAQ – bus and transport from Linz Airport

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

The latest bus which goes to the Linz city center departs at 7:00 p.m. and the latest shuttle bus for the train departs at 10:00 p.m. If you arrive later, a taxi or a private transfer are the options.

I have an early morning departure from the airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

There is no airport hotel and the closest hotels start at a distance of approximately 2 kilometers (~1 mile) with the closest being Gatshof Mandorfer. The following ones include Airotel, Hotel Langholzfelderhof and Hotel Almtalerhoff at a distance of approximately 4-5 kilometers (~3 miles). The transfer to any of them would be necessary.

I would like to visit Linz in between flights. Is that possible?

Yes, the Linz city center is only 12 kilometers (~7 miles) away from the airport and the city has a good public transport connection. You can reach the center in under 30 minutes with any type of transfer. The lockers to store your pieces of luggage or other items are available and are located behind the car rental offices in Main Car Park. You require a 2-Euro-coin for the locker.

Can I exchange money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

Yes, there are Allgemeine Sparkasse bank counters and cash machines available inside the airport itself and are located near the airport shops.

I am continuing my journey outside Linz. Are there any direct lines to other destinations?
