Trondheim Airport is an international airport serving Trondheim which is located at the end of a fjord, in the village of Værnes, 32 kilometers (20 miles) east of Trondheim. The main airlines at the airport are Scandinavian Airlines, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Widerøe. The airport has two Terminals, one for the domestic flights, and one for the international ones. In 2014, the airport handled almost 4.5 million passengers making it the fourth busiest in the country. How to get from Trondheim Airport to Trondheim
Airport shuttle bus
There are two competing shuttle buses at the airport waiting for the passengers to take them to the Trondheim city center.
- Flybussen (Nettbuss) – the bus departs from the airport and stops to all the hotels in the city center. The last stop is at St. Olavs hospital and Sorgenfri station. The bus departs every 10-15 minutes and the journey takes approximately 40 minutes. The price of the ticket for an adult person is 140 NOK (14,5 €), and children are able to travel for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
- Værness-ekspressen (Unibuss) serves: Værnes – Ranheim – Solsiden – Royal Garden – Torget – NTNU – Moholt. The bus departs every 15-20 minutes on weekdays, and around every hour on weekends. The price of one-way ticket is 160 NOK (16,5 €) for adults and 80 NOK (~8 €) for children. There is also an option of getting a discount by buying the ticket online.
Train
Another way to get to Trondheim is by train which is the fastest and cheapest way to travel. Follow the train symbols and you will get to the airport’s train station called ‘’Værness’’. The train departs from the airport once per hour and the journey takes approximately 35 minutes. The price of a ticket for an adult is 79 NOK (~8 €) and 40 NOK (~4 €) for children. Tickets can be bought from the vending machines at the airport. Have in mind that there is an option of buying the ticket on board, but in that case you have to pay a fee of 40 NOK per ticket. The last train departs at 22:54.
- NSB local train connects Trondheim center and Åre, the famous ski resort in Sweden. It stops at the airport in case, as many tourists, you want to get there directly.
Taxi Service
If you prefer a more relaxed and comfortable type of transfer, consider taking a taxi. Although they are a faster option than the bus, they are also much more expensive. The taxi stand is located outside the arrival hall and some of the companies you can find there are Stjørdal taxi, Norgestaxi Trondheim and Trøndertaxi. Regular price from the airport to the city center is 600 NOK (~62 €), and during the night even more. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.
Transfer
If you don’t like using the public transport and hesitate to take a taxi, consider booking a private transfer which will wait for you on the airport and take you to your destination. The transfer company will send a professional driver to pick you up. You can even pre-order a child safety seat if you’re travelling with a child.
