Airports in Arizona

Arizona airports are led by Phoenix Airport, the only large hub airport in the state. PHX is the only one handling more than 10 million passengers. Nevertheless, other airports in Arizona can also handle larger aircraft. Besides PHX, there are currently 8 other airports offering commercial flights. These smaller airports usually offer regional flights. As for the airlines, American Airlines, American Eagle and United are among major ones. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport – IATA Code – PHX (~ 46 M Passengers)

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the largest airport in Arizona and one of the busiest US airports. Airport is one of the largest hubs for American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. There are numerous domestic and international daily flights, however Denver and Seattle are the most common destinations. Located about 8 km from Downtown Phoenix, the airport offers several transportation options. Public Valley Metro bus routes, along with airport shuttles and taxis are available. 

Tucson International Airport – IATA Code – TUS (~ 3.8 M Passengers)

Tucson International Airport is located in Southern Arizona, about 13 km south of Tucson downtown. Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and SkyWest handle the biggest market share of passenger traffic. Most flights are domestic, with Dallas, LA and Denver leading the way of top destinations. Sun Tran public system gets you to Tucson in about 30 minutes. Alternatively, airport shuttles, taxis and rent-a-cars are another option. 

Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport – IATA Code – AZA (~ 1.7 M Passengers)

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is the second airport serving the Phoenix area. Other airport names include Williams Gateway Airport and Williams Air Force Base. Airport’s primary goal is to relieve some of the traffic from PHX airport. Allegiant Air handles most departures and arrivals. Provo and Sioux Falls are the most frequent domestic destinations. Located about 50 km from Phoenix, AZA airport is also a good choice when visiting Tonto National Forest.
