Beaches in Italy
When you think of Italy, the first things that pop on your mind are amazing history, breathtaking sights and delicious food. But Italy also has its fair share of beautiful beaches that will suit everyone. So you are done sightseeing but can’t decide where to hit the beach? Luckily for you we narrowed the list down to only 5 of them. If you find yourself in some of these places in Italy, make sure to check these beaches.
Tropea Beach, Calabria
One of the most unique beaches in Italy is Tropea Beach, also known as the Jewel of Calabria, located right under the cliffs on which the city of Tropea sits. Beach offers Caribbean style white sand and crystal clear sea. Tropea is surrounded by “lungomare”, which is popular among locals and tourists for walking around and enjoying amazing view. Restaurant and beach bar can be found on the beach, so you can enjoy delicious food, beverages or even rent beach loungers and parasol.
Getting to Tropea beach:
- Lamezia Terme is the closest airport to Tropea, and from there you can take a taxi or a bus ride to Lamezia Terme train station. Trains to Tropea run frequently, but make sure to check the timetable online.
Chia Beach, Sardinia
Chia beach is located just a short drive from Cagliari. It is regarded as one of the most popular beaches in Italy. Near the beach you can find lagoon which attracts migrating flamingos every summer. Beach has peach coloured sand and turquoise sea which is gently rolling towards coastline and it’s a popular location for water sports enthusiasts. Chia beach is thought of as one of the best kitesurfing locations in Italy, and it hosts regular events in windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing between April and June. Beach is also great for other sea activities like snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking.
Getting to Chia beach:
- Cagliari Elmas is the closest airport to Chia. From there you can take a shuttle bus or rent a car to get to the city. Fastest route when taking a car is SS 195 road.
Camogli Beach, Liguria
Camogli beach is located in the heart of a lovely little coastal town Camogli. Beach is made of pebbles and it is surrounded by beautiful buildings and promenade. It is divided into a few parts, some of which are open to the public and some are private areas available to visitors of beach bars. During August, beach can get crowded, but it’s large enough so you shouldn’t have problems finding a place to relax and sunbathe. Various activities are available on the beach, ranging from swimming and diving lessons to kayaking and rowing.
Getting to Camogli beach:
- Camogli is located between Genoa and La Spezia, and there is a rail line between these two cities. You can also reach Camogli by car or bus, so that gives you plenty of options to get to the beach.
San Vito lo Capo, Sicily
With long stretches of white sand, palms and crystal clear water on north-western coast of Sicily, San Vito Lo Capo beach is an Italian paradise. San Vito is a tropical-looking beach, offering one of the most stunning surroundings, thanks to the Monte Monaco mountain overlooking the bay. Beach is very popular among Sicilians, and it offers activities for every age group. From shallow waters suitable for small children, to beach bars and restaurants for adults. Various water sports activities are available, but there are also less crowded spots for those looking to relax.
Getting to San Vito lo Capo beach:
- There are two airports near San Vito Lo Capo town – Trapani and Palermo airport. Depending on an airport, you can choose a variety of transport options to reach the beach, just make sure to check the bus timetable online. Car drive to San Vito Lo Capo is of course another option.
Rimini Beach, Rimini
One of the most famous beaches in Italy and on Mediterranean is Rimini beach. Regardless of the time of day, from early May to late September, Rimini beach is always full of life. This sandy beach is stretching for 15 kilometers along the coastline. Most of the beach is licensed out to various beach bars, hotels or resorts, which offer various facilities like beach loungers, parasols, playgrounds for children, massage cabins etc. But if you don’t want to use their services, you can just put a towel on the beach and enjoy your stay. Apart from water sports, Rimini beach is also a popular location for team sports like beach football and volleyball.
Getting to Rimini beach:
- Due to its 15 kilometers stretch along the coastline, Rimini beach is easily accessible from several Italian cities. Federico Fellini airport and Forli airport are closest to the beach, with former being just a couple of kilometers away. Rimini can also be reached by bus or train, giving visitors enough options to choose from.
