Buses Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and also the biggest town with a population of approximately 1 million. In 2011, Zagreb was visited by 700 000 tourists, mostly from Germany, Austria and Italy. All the highways in Croatia are connected with Zagreb as well as the corridor which connects northern Europe and Turkey.

Public transport

Zagreb public transport is well developed, efficient and simple. It includes trams, buses, funicular and suburban trains. Public transport in Zagreb is mostly operated by ZET company (Zagrebacki elektricni tramvaj – Zagreb electric tram) which maintains the tram and bus network as well as the cable car and funicular. Trams can be recognized by their blue colour and they are the most popular means of transport in the centre of Zagreb.

Tram network is complemented with 134 day bus lines and 4 night lines; 76 of these are city lines and 58 are suburban lines. Bus lines cover better the suburban parts of the city than the very centre. They are less frequent than trams, depending of course on the line, but the waiting time is from 7 minutes to one hour. Public transport tickets

Tickets for public transport are valid for all ZET transport means (trams, buses and funicular). They can be purchased from the driver (except for the new trams), at ZET sales points and at TISAK kiosks. Tickets can also be purchased by sending an SMS to number 8585 containing ZG. A ticket is valid for 90 minutes in zone 1 and you can use it in all directions. There are several types of tickets:

• single ticket – up to 90 minutes after validation
• single daily ticket – valid for one whole day (on the day of validation)
• three day ticket – valid on the day of validation and for the neyt two days
• weekly ticket – valid on the day of validation and for the next 6 days.

Single tickets for night bus lines are a bit more expensive then those for day bus lines but if you purchase a three day ticket or a weekly ticket, night bus rides are included in the price.

You can also purchase a contactless ticket/card at a price of 10 kuna at ZET sales points, TISAK and iNovine kiosks. It can be recharged with any amount from 10 to 1000 kuna. Contactless tickets are transferrable and can be used to pay tickets for more people and to buy a ticket for several days. It is also valid for all zones and lines (buses, trams and funicular). Bus station

The main bus station in Zagreb is located southeast from the railway station (3 tram stations, nr. 2 and 6 or a ten minute walk). The bus station can be reached by tram lines , 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Tram line nr. 6 connects the main bus station and Ban Jelacic Square.

Luggage storage

Luggage storage can be found within the bus station building, next to the 106 arrivals platform. Working hours of the luggage storage are from 00:00 to 24:00 (24/7) and there you can find Cargo service for reception and shipment. These are the prices for storing your luggage at Zagreb bus station:

• Passenger luggage (travel bag, suitcase and other up to 15 kg max) up to 4 hours per hour and piece: 5,00 HRK
• Passenger luggage (travel bag, suitcase and other up to 15 kg max) more than 4 hours per hour and piece: 2,50 HRK
• Items heavier than 40 kg – 10 HRK/hour

Airport transfer

Zagreb Airport is 18 km away from the centre; the address is Ulica Rudolfa Fizira. Here you can check where it is on Google maps.

Pleso prijevoz company organizes transfers from the airport to the main bus station and the other way round. Departures and arrivals are in accordance with scheduled flight departures and arrivals. These shuttle buses do not make any stops between the airport and the main bus station; the ride lasts app 30 minutes.

Panoramic buses

Tourist buses operate on two lines: red and green. The red line runs within the urban city area and has 6 stops on the way. The green line runs within a wider city area all the way to Jarun Lake, Bundek and Maksimir Park with seven stops on the way. These are the so called Hop on – Hop off buses which means that you can use the ticket an unlimited number of times on both lines within 24 hours. A single ticket costs 70 kuna and can be purchased from the driver, on Jelacic Square or in the ticket office at 4 Petriceva street.
