Cheap travel Frankfurt Zagreb
Between Frankfurt am Main and Zagreb, there is plenty of ways to travel, but if you are on a budget, not all of them might be an option for you.
By Plane:
Travelling by plane is obviously the fastest way of travelling, there is daily direct plane between the two cities operated by Croatia airlines or Lufthansa, if there is no campaign offers available, you should expect a price tag of 250-300 Euro for a return ticket, one way is only slightly cheaper.
By train:
Taking a train from Frankfurt to Zagreb is for sure possible, there are some direct departures, but most available departures trough Deutsche Bahn, has at least one change, in most cases in Munich, from there on the trip then continue with Train or the IC bus owned by DB. Ticket prices vary a lot, regular price is about 150 -200 Euro, but if you are flexible in terms of departure time and number of changes, you should be able to get a ticket way cheaper than that.
If you are the holder of a Interrail pass, taking the train is of course the obvious solution, depending on the pass you hold, you should be able to use it for the trip to Zagreb.
By Bus:
Frankfurt and Zagreb are also very well connected by bus, year around there are at least one daily departures between the cities, as the fair prices has decreased this year, the going rate for a one way tickets is about 80-100 Euro, but quite often you will find special offers available on certain travel days. If you don’t mind changing bus in Munich, you should consider buying a ticket from Frankfurt to Munich and then from Munich to Zagreb, which in almost all cases will be cheaper than the direct bus, but of course less comfy.
By Car (rented car):
If you are several people travelling together, renting a car might be the cheapest option, all the major car rental companies, SIXT, Eurocar, AVIS etc all have offices in Zagreb. If you should chose to rent a car, keep in mind that you have road cost (Austria – Vignette, Slovenian – Vignette, Croatia – Toll) which you should add to your budget.
NOTE: If you are continuing from Zagreb, to other locations in Croatia, you have frequent buses to more or less any city, train connections are very limit, and plane is only an option if you are going to Zadar, Split or Dubrovnik.
