Ljubljana to Italy
Between Slovenia and the neighbouring country Italy, there is obviously quite a bit of people travelling, the majority of people of course travel by car, but there is also a considerable amount of people travelling with the fairly inexpensive cross boarder intercity buses. The majority of the bus traffic goes between Ljubljana and towns in the northern part of Italy.
- The top bus route is between Ljubljana and Venice or Ljubljana and Venice Mestre, during summer season there is at least a handful of direct bus driving between the two cities, during winter season there are less connections, the travel time by bus from Ljubljana to Venice is between 3 and 5 hours depending on number of stops. In additional to the regular scheduled buses there is also quite a few day trip buses driving.
- The second most popular bus routes is between Ljubljana and Milan, here there is around 5 daily departure which drive all year around, the bus travel time between Ljubljana and Milan is from 8 to 10 hours depending on number of stops and travel route.
- The third most popular route is between Ljubljana and Trieste, as most of buses which continue towards Venice or Istria in Croatia stop here, there is quite a few daily departures especially during summer time, travel time from Ljubljana to Trieste is less than two hours.
Other travel routes which are available on daily basis year around include Ljubljana to Padua, Ljubljana to Verona and Ljubljana to Bologna. If you are travelling to cities like Genoa or Turin, you have few direction option bus plenty if you do the tour with a bus change in Milan.
Other cities which has at least weekly departure between the cities are Rome, Florence, Naples, Brescia, Modena, Ancona, Parma and Udine just to mention a few.
In addition to Ljubljana, there is of course also buses to Italy from Slovenia towns like, Maribor and Celje and even from Postojna, although the buses does not stop at the caves directly, but at the main bus station in centre of Postojna town. From another popular sight in Slovenia, Lake Bled, there is unfortunately no buses to Italy, so if you wish to travel from there on e.g to Venice, you have to take bus from Bled to Ljubljana and then change bus there.
Especially during summer season there is of course a large number of tour buses either day trips or multi day trips from Slovenia, one of the most popular tours is a day trip to Gardaland, which is offer from main Slovenia cities during summer season.
