Manuel Crescencio Rejon International Airport was formerly known as Merida-Rejon International Airport, and is nowadays mostly referred to as Merida Airport. It serves Merida, Mexico. The airport has only one terminal that serves both domestic and international flights. Passengers from domestic flights arrive in the south wing, while international passengers arrive in the north wing of the terminal. The airport saw a 50% decrease in the number of passengers in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, the airport handled over 2,7 million passengers. In 2020, it handled around 1,3 million passengers. Some of the airlines that operate through the airport are AeroMexico, VivaAerobus, Volaris and InterJet.

Getting from Merida Airport to Merida

The distance between MID and the city is about 7 kilometres. Getting to Merida is possible via taxi, car rental and private transfer. 

Bus 

A bus line connecting the airport to the historical centre is provided by ADO. The airport bus terminal is on the company’s website listed as Terminal paseo 60, and the price of a single ticket ranges from 36 to 42 pesos. 

The bus to the historical centre operates twice a day and the ride lasts around 20 minutes. The bus departs once in the morning, and once in the evening

  • Morning departure: at around 6:40 AM, the price of a single ticket is approximately 36 MXN
  • Evening departure: at around 21:05, the price of a single ticket is approximately 23 MXN

The bus from the centre to the airport departs three times a day. The ride lasts approximately 20 minutes. All three departures are early in the morning.

  • The first departure: at around 5:45 AM, the price of a single ticket is approximately 32 MXN
  • The second departure: at around 6:45 AM, the price of a single ticket is approximately 34 MXN
  • The last departure: at around 9:05, the price of a single ticket is approximately 42 MXN

Taxi 

You will find taxi booths at the airport outside the arrivals area, and the service is provided by ADO and Transporte Terrestre. The fares of both companies are around 200 pesos which equals around 10 USD$. 

Although rideshare services such as Uber, DiDi and Cabify operate in the city, they are prohibited from operating at the airport and competing with the taxi services.

Pre-booking a private transfer is another way to travel from the airport to your destination. Door-to-door transfer ensures a hassle-free experience. Your personal driver will be waiting at the airport to take you to your destination. 

Car hire at Merida Airport

For those who prefer being their own driver and exploring the area, renting a car might be an option to consider. The car rental area of Merida Airport is located outside the arrivals area. Some of the major car rental companies – Hertz and Europcar to name a few – have their rental booths in the rental area. However, there is always a possibility of waiting in a queue. Domestic flights from MID mostly operate to airports in Cancun, Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tijuana.
