Naschmarkt in Vienna
Nowhere else in Vienna, nor probably in the entire Austria, will you find such a variety of food, drinks or handicrafts like at the Naschmarkt. Following the tradition which originated in the 16th century, the Austrians come to the market to enjoy products from many different cultures brought by the vendors representing the farmers living outside the city or by those that came from overseas from the parts of the world once connected to the great Austrian empire.
Nowadays, the market, spread on more than 120 stands, has a wide range of purposes, serving both the locals and the tourists who come for a city break in Austria’s capital.
If you ask a local where’s the best place to eat – here is the answer. From sandwiches, hot dogs and kebabs to traditional Austrian cuisine, Asian food and all kinds of fish, Naschmarkt has it all. In addition, you can find the most exotic spices, fruits, vegetables and ingredients as well.
The Naschmarkt is without a doubt the best place in Vienna for experiencing the multiculturalism of one of Europe’s top tourist destinations, where you can see both the Austrians buying groceries for lunch as well as the visitors from around the world searching for souvenirs.
If you happen to be in Vienna on a Saturday, then you caught a break! Every Saturday there is a flea market at the end of the Naschmarkt, which is a perfect opportunity to pick up, other than the edible pleasures of the main market, some stuff from some old Austrian garage or attic.
Working hours: 06:00 a.m. – 07:30 p.m. (cafes and restaurants stay open until midnight), on Saturday the market closes at 06:00 p.m., and on Sunday it does not work at all

- from the airport: S-Bahn to Floridsdorf (exit on Wien-Mitte station), change to U-Bahn U4 line to Karlsplatz, which is at the end of the Naschmarkt
