Like whole Croatia, Istria is also beautiful and absolutely worth a visit all year round. However, because of its beautiful beaches and the crystal clear sea one could say that in summer it gets even more beautiful and attractive for tourists from all over the world. In this text you can find the five most beautiful beaches in Istria. Of course, those are not the only great beaches one can find, but they are the most popular ones.
MEDULIN
Medulin is a known tourist destination with a great offer of accommodation and loads of contents for everyone. It is known for its beautiful coast which is surrounded by many little islands and many beautiful beaches. The most known and most popular beach is the beach Bijeca which extends for over one kilometre along the coast of Medulin. Bijeca beach is a sandy beach with a mild entrance into the sea which makes it perfect for families with children and for elderly people. The younger population is also attracted by the sand beach as they can play beach volleyball and have fun doing other beach activities. It is also possible to rent sun beds and umbrellas and if you wish to spend the whole day at the beach you can find shade in the trees right above the beach. Close to the beach there are many restaurants and bars, so it won’t be a problem to find a place where you can taste some of the Istrian specialties. Medulin is the perfect blend of a quite vacation and great fun.
RABAC
The Lanterna beach in Rabac is located in the tourist area where you can find a tourist resort and many hotels and it is easily reachable by foot, in those few walking minutes you can enjoy a walk along the little paths going through a small forest. Lanterna is a nice pebbly beach with a mild entrance into the sea which makes it perfect for families with small children. On the beach one can rent sun chairs and umbrellas and all kind of equipment for water sports. There are also safety guards taking care of you and your family. This beautiful beach was awarded with the blue flag, the proof of the great quality of the sea and the beach itself. Travelling from Rabac by intercity busses is not possible, but you can first travel to Opatija or Pula from where you can reach Rabac easily by local buses.
POREC
The beautiful city of Porec attracts every year loads of tourists. One of the reasons is the crystal clear sea and the great beaches of which the Valeta AC Lanterna beach is one of the most popular. It is located about 13 km from the city centre of Porec, on the southwestern side of the peninsula Lanterna. It is mostly visited by the guests of the auto camp Lanterna but it is open for everyone who wants to enjoy the clear blue sea. It is a 200 m long beach in the beautiful, sunny bay and it is a combination of pebble and paved areas which makes it perfect for the whole family. As part of the beach there are changing rooms and showers and life guards are there everyday from 10 (am) until 18 (6 pm) o’clock. The auto camp and the beach have a rich sports and gastronomic offer.
UMAG
Approximately 2 km from Umag there is the Sol Polynesia beach which is a combination of stone, sand, pebble with an easy entrance into the sea which makes the beach perfect for everyone, old or young. This beach is also equipped with anything you might want during your vacation like showers, sun beds, umbrellas, newspaper stands, shops with beach equipment, toilettes, grocery shops, a beach bar, a restaurant and many other things. If you prefer an active day at the beach you can play beach volleyball, tennis, football, mini golf, ping – pong, badminton or you can enjoy a Jet Ski ride. For the youngest, there is also a playground, trampolines and an amusement park. Close to the beach there are also two pools and all the time you are watched by the safety guards at the beach.
ROVINJ
The beautiful beach Amarin is located in the camp Amarin in the northern part of Rovinj. The 500 m long beach has a pebbly part and bigger stones part and it was until a few years ago one of the most known nudist beaches in the region. Nowadays the nudist part has moved outside the borders of the camp. The beach is rewarded with the blue flag which is a proof of the clear sea and also a clean environment. The beach offers different grounds which makes it perfect for everyone, especially for families with children. If you are on vacation with your dog you don’t have to worry either as there is a special part of the beach for dogs. In front of the camp there is a parking space where you can park your car free of charge but since the beach is part of the camp you will have to pay a day ticket for the beach which costs 20 kn (app. 3 Euro).
