Top beaches in Croatia

Croatia is a huge hit among tourists every summer – and if you’ve ever been there, you surely know why! The best advice is to head south, since Dalmatian coast is where the most beautiful sand and rock beaches are to be found. Croatian islands are pearls of Adriatic which often hide your perfect getaways and most of them are easily accessible by ferry, so don’t think twice, get your swimsuit and your suncream and take the first plane (or bus) to Croatian coast: Airport Split, Airport Zadar or Airport Dubrovnik. 1) Saharun, Dugi otok

Dugi otok’s most famous beach is probably for many people the most beautiful one on the Croatian side of the Adriatic Sea. By looking at its photos you’ll feel like gazing at the scenery of Maldives or Mauritius. White sand and turquoise crystal sea are a vacation for your body and soul, so don’t hesitate to plan your trip in this piece of heaven on Earth.

How to get to Saharun:

• By ferry: Take the bus to Zadar and from there the ferry line Zadar – Brbinj.

2) Solaris, Sibenik

This is a real family beach, where kids will have the best time thanks to the numerous attractions like water slides and pools, playgrounds, mini kart, wooden child town and much, much more. The pebble white beach has already gotten several awards, including the one for the Best Beach in 2013 and the Best Resort Beach on the Adriatic Sea. Apart from all this, the gastronomy is excellent and it is a real paradise for your palate.

How to get to Solaris:

• By bus: You can reach Sibenik from many cities in the region, like Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo, Podgorica, etc.

3) Zlatni rat, Brac

Probably the most heard of Croatian beach, Zlatni rat on the island of Brac, more specifically in Bol. Only 15 min on foot from the Bol centre you will find one of the most beautiful beaches in the world that actually changes its shape, depending on the sea current and waves. The beach is covered in natural white pebble stone and offers many attractions to its visitors, from bars and restaurants to the professional masseuses in uniforms and jet-ski.

How to get to Zlatni rat:

• By ferry: Take the ferry from Split to Brac (Bol). From there you can walk or take a small tourist bus which takes you directly to the beach and departs from the port.

4) Istruga, Brna

Another pearl of the island of Korcula, the Istruga beach is 600 m long and near the place of Smokvica and the tourist village Brno, 500 m away from the beach itself. In the cove you can find a small restaurant and a sport and recreation centre, all surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. However, the best part of the cove is up to 6 m thick ‘peloids’, a dark sea mud with a huge therapeutic value.

How to get to Istruga:

• By ferry: Take the ferry to Korcula from Split or Dubrovnik, and from there take the local bus to Smokvica (4km away) from where you need to have a short ride to Brna.

5) Banje, Dubrovnik

One of the best known beaches in South Dalmatia is located in ancient Dubrovnik, near the centre of the city. To reach the beach you need to use a flight of stairs to descend, so it’s not accessible to the handicapped people. The beach has a magnificent view of Dubrovnik’s old part and the unsettled island of Lokrum. It also has a restaurant where you can try some of the best culinary recipes and hide from the hot sun. It is also possible to enjoy water sports, such as jet ski, paragliding, water tube, banana and other similar activities, as well as go clubbing when the night comes.

How to get to Banje:

• By bus: The beach is in Dubrovnik’s centre, so you can only walk there from the bus station. Dubrovnik is reachable from many European cities, like Zagreb, Podgorica, Sarajevo or Split.
